The West Virginia University Press Mission Statement

The official mission statement for the West Virginia University Press, adopted by the Advisory Board of the Press and approved by the Office of the Provost of West Virginia University in August, 1999:

The West Virginia University Press disseminates scholarly and creative materials through books, journals, and electronic media, within academia and to society at large. The West Virginia University Press is the primary publishing and distribution agency of scholarly and trade publications for West Virginia University.

Under the imprint of West Virginia University Press, the press shall publish scholarly and creative works treating the West Virginia and Appalachian Region and other works, especially those that the Director and the Advisory Board consider within the purview of the Press.

Under its series of alternative, the press shall publish works of interest to the general public and other works approved for publication by the Advisory Board of the West Virginia University Press in accordance with all established policies of the Press governing each imprint. With the support of the Director and the Advisory Board of the Press, West Virginia University Press may also elect to serve as the agent of publication for official activities sponsored by West Virginia University in accordance with established policies of the Press governing this activity.

Through the publication of all such works, West Virginia University Press fulfills part of the Land Grant mission of West Virginia University.
